Sarah Pruitt Turners Falls MA Sarah D. Pruitt began her career as a costume designer with a bang in 1988 as a founding member of ACME Theatre. With little or no budget, Sarah designed over 30 shows for the clubs and lofts of Cambridge and Boston using her imagination and ingenuity to cobble together interesting costumes from second hand sources. ACME Theatre's events combined creative theatrical productions with live rock shows. Their style caught the eye of many theatre directors and soon Sarah had landed residency positions with companies such as Sugan Theatre, The New Theatre and Threshold Theatre. From there came wardrobe and shop work at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge where she worked for five years with various actors and directors such as David Mamet and Felicity Huffman. Sarah took seven years off from designing to expand her family and relocate to Western Mass. She continued to work in theatre as a wardrobe assistant for traveling productions like the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Jesus Christ Superstar, and the Cirque de Soleil. In the last 3 years Sarah has returned to her designing roots by creating fantasy fashion out of what’s at hand or salvaged from Suzy Q’s Laundromat in Turner’s Falls. Items used: Soap boxes, plastic bags, old t-shirts, towels, grain sacks, coffee filters and more. |
